Zayn Malik clarified a viral video, saying the disruptive crowd outside his hotel were not fans
He was seen on camera asking people to "get the f--k out of the way" as he struggled to reach his car
The singer recently performed two shows in England after canceling U.S. dates due to illness
Zayn Malik is setting the record straight on a recent fan encounter.
The singer, 33, was seen on TMZ video asking a crowd to “get the f--k out of the way” as he made his way from his hotel to a waiting car in Manchester, England — but according to him, the fans clogging the area weren’t fans at all.
“Let’s just get the facts straight - the fans were and always are respectful and amazing - the issue was the multiple fully grown men that were blocking the doors of the hotel and the car for 10 minutes not letting us or security out,” Malik wrote in an Instagram comment.
In the video, someone on Malik’s team warns the group that he “can’t get in the car” and asks them to “please watch out” as he struggles to open the car door.
The “Side Effects” singer went on to say the people involved were “stalkers” trying to get social media content.
“It is not safe and not okay and they ruin it for the real fans,” he said.

Malik performed in Manchester on May 24, one day after kicking off his tour in London in support of his latest album Konnakol.
He’d previously been scheduled to tour the U.S., but was forced to cancel the dates after he was hospitalized amid an undisclosed illness.
"To my fans: Thank you so much for all the support and love you've shown me on the album release and more importantly your love, prayers, and well wishes for my health. I've felt it, and it's meant the world. I've been at home recovering and I'm doing well and will be better and stronger than before," Malik wrote on Instagram.
He continued: “I've had to take another look at my schedule for the months ahead and have to reduce the number of shows on the KONNAKOL Tour. I want to make sure I still get out and see as many of you as I possibly can. I'm really looking forward to playing these shows for you, and I hope to see the rest of you around the world very soon. Big Love, Z.”
His tour will continue in June with three shows in Mexico and again in South America in October.
Malik first shared news of his illness on April 17, the same day he released Konnakol. Days later, a source told PEOPLE he was taking a step back from promoting the record and was seeking treatment from the world’s top cardiologist.
