Valerie Bertinelli is reflecting on her relentless work ethic.
On Wednesday, Dec. 17, the celebrity chef shared a selfie on Instagram, revealing a red bump on her eyelid.
“POV: When your puffy eye with a stye is about to close shut, but you’re still excited to go to work because you love your job,” she wrote. “If there’s one thing I’ve learned about this business that I’ve been in for over 50 years, is it doesn’t matter how sick you are (as long as you’re not contagious) - you show up for work and you do your job because you’re lucky to have it.”
“I am grateful every single day for the people I get to work with and surround myself with,” she continued.
Bertinelli, 65, then added that a memory of her musician son, 34–year-old Wolfgang Van Halen, inspired her to keep going.

“And as soon as I felt sorry for myself this morning I remembered that I watched Wolfie perform for almost 2 hours to full sold out audiences while his body was trying to release a kidney stone,” she wrote. “Let’s do this!”
The One Day at a Time alum also shared a video on her Instagram Stories, in which she assured viewers she was still going to work because she has a job that she’s “so in love with.”
Her next Instagram Stories post showed her dressed up in an all-gray ensemble for an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show.
The Food Network alum, whose upcoming memoir, Getting Naked, is set for release in 2026, recently said the supportive atmosphere at the show gave her the confidence to share more.
Bertinelli joined Barrymore’s talk show as a lifestyle expert in 2024.
In a clip posted on the show’s Instagram in October, Barrymore praised Bertinelli as “very real, very wise, very giving of your life experiences.”
“I want my life experiences to have meant something,” the Indulge cookbook author explained.
Bertinelli explained that she started writing her new book around the same time she began appearing on the show.
“You welcomed me into this home and it felt like such a safe space,” she said. “And I started to then just write, and write and write. And I went, ‘Oh, I’m not healed yet. I’ve got so much more left to do.’”
“I feel so loved here,” she continued. “And this book is hopefully what I’ve been through, what I can learn from it, and then what I can then give anybody else that may want to learn and make their lives better as well.”
