In 1996, Claire Danes played the doomed Shakespearean heroine Juliet Capulet in Baz Luhrman’s Romeo + Juliet. In the film’s legendary balcony scene, Danes wore a smocked white dress that frothed against her shoulders with a double-banded waist and a fabric with an angelic, near-glowing sheen.

Thirty years later, Sadie Sink is echoing the look.

The actress is currently playing Juliet in a West End production in London, and this evening, she celebrated her opening night in a charming Prada gown. The dress features tiny capped shoulders, a double-wrapped empire waist, and a luminous satin texture. Sink was styled by Molly Dickson, with hair by Halley Brisker, makeup by Emma Day, and jewelry by Repossi.

The 23-year-old actress has a long history of teaming up with Prada for red carpets—but not quite as long as Romeo + Juliet’s legendary costume designer Kym Barrett, who famously partnered with the house on key costumes for the 1996 film. (Fun fact: Dolce & Gabbana also donated archival pieces for the beach gangsters to wear in the opening fight scene.) Originally written in 1596, Romeo + Juliet celebrated the Shakespeare play’s 400th anniversary while cementing Leonardo DiCaprio as the only guy who could look hot while crying on a beach.

We’ll never know what the original Juliet Capulet wore onstage, but thanks to Kym Barrett’s meticulous note-keeping during production, we know that Juliet’s 1996 movie dress was handcrafted to play into Romeo’s description of her as a ā€œbright angel.ā€ Three decades later, it’s still so in-demand that DĆ“en, Reformation, and even Quince have pretty great riffs. Meanwhile on Etsy, you can (allegedly!) get a made-to-measure linen version based on the original for about $250.

Want to wear Sink’s current Prada piece? Sadly, the Tony-nominated actress is sporting a custom, one-of-a-kind creation from the brand’s Milan atelier. But could it ever go into production? Who knows—stranger things have happened…even if you’re not on Stranger Things.
