Prince William Admits He and Wife Kate Middleton Frequently “Embarrass” Teenage Son Prince George

Prince George attended the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland on August 1.

He was joined by his parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton, and younger siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The Prince of Wales joked that he and the Princess of Wales often “embarrass” George, who just turned 13 years old on July 22.

Prince George turned 13 years old on July 22, and less than two weeks in, he’s definitely exhibiting traits of a typical teenager.

That’s according to his dad Prince William, who attended the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland on August 1 alongside his eldest son, his wife Kate Middleton, and their two younger children Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Saturday marked a big day for all three Wales children, but Louis in particular—it was the trio’s first official visit to Scotland, and Louis’s first official appearance at a sporting event. (While his elder siblings have attended Wimbledon alongside their parents, 8-year-old Louis hasn’t done so yet.)

The Wales family proved how authentic and relatable they really are as the Prince of Wales noted that he embarrasses George in particular. Here’s what happened, per The Telegraph: the Princess of Wales noted that five-time Olympic champion cyclist Dame Laura Kenny had tried to convince William and Kate to “come and give it a go.”

“Be careful what you wish for, as they want to put us on a tandem bike in the Velodrome,” Kate said. To this, Welsh TV presenter Gethin Jones asked George, Charlotte, and Louis, “Would you like to see mum and dad on a tandem in the Velodrome later?” To this, George deadpanned, “No.”

“We embarrass you enough as it is,” William joked in response.

Later, the family met gymnasts Abigail and Emily Roper, and Kate said to her youngest child, “Louis, you’re perfecting your handstand at the moment.” To this, he said, “A bit. But Charlotte says I’m not very good.”

After asking Charlotte if she could do a handstand, the 11-year-old replied, “Yeah,” while George admitted, “I’m rubbish at anything that involves flexibility.” William, ever a proud father, noted that his only daughter “loves gymnastics and ballet.” Per The Sun, Kate also added that “Charlotte likes her dancing.”

Elsewhere in the day, Kate said of her youngest that “Louis was saying he likes high jump.” To this, she turned to him and asked, “Louis, you like high jump?”

To this, he replied, “Yeah,” as William quipped, “That’s news to us!”

Saturday marked George’s first official outing as a teenager. The Wales family will likely largely be away from public appearances for most of August and into September, as the teenage future king prepares to head off to secondary school at Eton College, the prestigious all-boys’ school that is also the alma mater of his father, William.

“Catherine and William are so pleased George is going to Eton, and George is over the moon,” a source with close connections to the family told Vanity Fair. “He has been to see the school more than once and loved it. He was very chuffed to be offered a place and is excited about getting fitted for a new uniform.”

“William and Catherine love the fact that George won’t be too far from home but can also be a boarder and fully immerse himself in school life,” the insider added. “He had to sit the exams just like every other applicant, and he is very proud to be starting in September.”
