Prince Harry is planning to extend a n olive branch to his father, King Charles, for next year, with a royal insider suggesting there are strategic reasons behind the gesture.

The Duke of Sussex is said to want to invite Charles to participate in "either the opening or closing ceremony" of the Invictus Games in Birmingham next year.

Reports suggest the invitation could include His Majesty potentially attending "a range of sporting events to meet competitors." However, sources indicate Harry's proposal serves a dual purpose. A source claimed, "Harry's intention is two-fold." It comes as King Charles was told to "watch his back" over Harry and Meghan's upcoming plans.

"He would love the King's support at the Games, while having his father by his side would also add considerable weight to his argument for security for his family to accompany him on the trip," the source told The Mirror.

The duke has been engaged in an extended legal dispute with the Home Office regarding security provisions for him and his family during UK visits after his protection level was modified when he stepped back as a working royal in 2020, reports the Express.

Following the duke's unsuccessful Court of Appeal challenge against the Home Office last year, he gave a BBC interview expressing hopes for family reconciliation, disclosing that Charles would not communicate with him due to his security court case.

The Duke of Sussex had been awaiting a review by the Risk Management Board (RMB), which forms part of the procedure through which the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec) determines his security needs, but discovered last month, prior to his UK visit, that it had not yet occurred.

At the time of publication, no determination regarding Harry's security arrangements has been reached.

The father and son were last seen together publicly at the late Queen Elizabeth's funeral in September 2022 and her Platinum Jubilee celebrations that summer.

In September, it is understood that Harry will accept his father's offer to stay at Buckingham Palace during his visit to the UK for the annual WellChild Awards in London.
