Mohamed Salah will arrive in Istanbul on Wednesday to hold talks over a move to Trabzonspor as a free agent, according to the Turkish club.

The 34-year-old, who left Liverpool this summer as their greatest goalscorer in the Premier League era, has been assessing his options after his Anfield departure.

Trabzonspor have announced they have started negotiations to land the Egypt international and he is scheduled to travel from Atatürk Airport to Trabzon by early evening.

“Professional footballer Mohamed Salah, with whom we have begun transfer negotiations, will be at Istanbul Ataturk Airport General Aviation Terminal at 12:00 on Wednesday, August 5,” read Trabzonspor’s statement.

“The player is scheduled to arrive in Trabzon on the same day in the evening hours. The time and other details regarding the welcome program in Trabzon will be shared with the public through our club’s official communication channels during the day.”

Salah would be expected to complete a medical if negotiations are completed with the Super Lig club.

It would be a significant signing for Trabzonspor to complete a deal for one of the Premier League greats, who is the second-highest scorer in the competition currently playing, behind Harry Kane.

After finishing third in the Turkish top flight, Trabzonspor are playing in the Europa League next season and have a play-off to reach the group stages. Andre Onana spent last season on loan from Manchester United and Salah would be their most high-profile signing.

He has been allowed to talk to clubs over a contract after leaving Anfield at the end of last season, having reached an agreement to rip up his contract in March.

Three months earlier, he gave a bombshell interview to journalists at Elland Road, saying he had been “thrown under the bus” by the club and revealing a breakdown with head coach, Arne Slot, who Andoni Iraola has since replaced.

Saudi Pro League confirmed interest in Salah but Trabzonspor have moved first for the two-time Premier League winner, who also won the Premier League at Anfield.
