They plan to have a larger wedding celebration next May

The couple, University of Louisville alums, announced their engagement in February

Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Ashton Gillotte is married!

The pro football player wed pro volleyball player Cara Cresse on Saturday, May 23. The couple, both 23, announced their marriage in a joint post on Instagram on Monday, May 25.

"Surprise! We got married!" Cresse wrote in the caption alongside nine wedding photos. "We had our dear families alongside us for the sweetest ceremony and celebration. Our new favorite day!"

She then revealed that they plan to have a larger wedding next year: "Can't wait to celebrate with even more of our loved ones next May!"

"Congratulations!! ❤️," the official Kansas City Chiefs account commented. Cresse's volleyball team, Indy Ignite, added, "Gorgeous!! Congratulations!!!!! 🔥."

On Tuesday, May 26, the bride reflected on her special day by thanking a few of her vendors on her Instagram Stories alongside more wedding photos. She began, "I just have to shout out some of the amazing people who contributed to making this the most perfect day ever..."

"First up: the floral arch of my DREAMS! Thank you x10,000 for making my vision come to life @sincerelyjenncrafts," Cresse wrote. She exchanged vows with Gillotte underneath a lush floral arch featuring several different types and colors of flowers. Jennifer Yoder, who made the floral arch with Katie Campbell, wrote on Instagram that it was an "absolute honor" to create such a pivotal piece of their ceremony.

Cresse then expressed her gratitude for her makeup artist, Kaitlin Morphew, for making her "feel so beautiful." She shared, "You're the best."

In her final two Instagram Stories, Cresse gushed over her "sweet friend" and wedding photographer, Liv Coke, who she noted "has now captured 3 different stages of our relationship." She also highlighted "the most special detail": her bridal bouquet. The colorful bouquet was tied with a blue ribbon and created by Cresse's "talented dear sister & best friend," Lauren Foreman.
