- Christine Taylor recalls standing her ground over an iconic line in A Very Brady Bunch Sequel.

- The actress said she was advised to change her delivery of the film's hilarious "George Glass" exchange, but she refused.

- Taylor was determined for her portrayal of Marcia Brady to stay true to the original actress, Maureen McCormick

Christine Taylor is claiming credit for one of the most infamous scenes in *Brady Bunch** *history.

The actress, who portrayed overachieving, all-American girl Marcia Brady in 1996's *A Very Brady Sequel*, was a massive* Brady Bunch* obsessive long before she landed a role in the film. On the May 26 episode of the *McBride Rewind* podcast, Taylor recounted coming home from school every day, ready for another episode of the beloved sitcom.

"I started to, I think, craft my Maureen McCormick, Marcia Brady impression at a very young age without even knowing that there was a future to be had in it. I just loved her," Taylor confessed. "I loved the show. I loved the episodes. I love the dialogue. So it was taking shape in that way for me before I even really knew it. It was just what I loved."

This eventually came in handy when Taylor landed a major role in *The Brady Bunch Movie *and its sequel. The actress explained that when it came to playing Marcia, she was always keeping in mind McCormick's portrayal as a guiding influence for her own.

As an example, Taylor pointed to a viral moment from the movie: where Marcia cooly tells Jan "I've never heard of a George Glass at our school" after younger sister lies about having a boyfriend. The exchange is set up for the "Sure, Jan" moment that is a meme in its own right.

"In *A Very Brady Sequel*, the line where I say, 'I've never heard of a George Glass at our *skewl*.' The director stopped me and said, 'Can you just say school? We don't know what you're saying, can you just say school?" Taylor recounted.

But Taylor stood her ground. "I said, 'No, I can't because Maureen McCormick said 'skewl.' It was a very specific way of saying it," she insisted.

Taylor continued, "I fought for those moments where I knew it was the way Maureen did it and she did it so perfectly and I needed to nail that. I needed to nail it with love and with affection."

Taylor said she was determined to deliver a performance that "felt like Maureen would be okay with and proud of and happy with."

Taylor wasn't the only superfan on set. The actress' love for the show was shared by Jennifer Elise Cox, who portrayed Jan, and also grew up loving the iconic '70s sitcom.

"Jennifer, who brilliantly played Jan, and I were the only two who were fans of the original. We were obsessive about it," Taylor added. "So everything we did in that movie came through the lens of Jennifer and I saying, 'Well, she would never say it that way,' or 'We got to change that line,' or 'We got to fix that because that's not right.'"

In recent weeks, ignited by a memoir from original Jan Brady actress Eve Plumb, fans have been debating whether the *Brady Bunch* films were honoring the portrayals of the original sitcom or poking fun at them. Asked to weigh in, Taylor reiterated that for her, it was always coming from a place of love.

"To me, it's tricky because, of course, that's the perception of it," Taylor said. "But for those of us who loved it so with all of our hearts, I had to feel like this was a way of honoring something that was so iconic but doing it with some laughs along the way."
