Andrew Keegan is revealing just how much he earns in residuals.

The actor says he's received one-cent checks in the past for some of his TV projects.

Keegan says he earns the most from starring as Joey Donner in 10 Things I Hate About You.

Andrew Keegan is getting real about the amount he earns in residuals.

The actor, whose credits include films like 10 Things I Hate About Youand television series such as 7th Heaven, revealed earlier this month on an episode of The McBride Rewind podcast that he's received checks for less than a dollar for some of his TV work.

“Do you get good residual checks 'cause of all these things, continuously running?” McBride asked Keegan. The actor replied, “I think it's really funny, 'cause I'll get — different shows, obviously — but I'll get one-cent checks. It costs, like, 40 cents to send in the mail!”

Keegan admitted that he sometimes doesn’t even look to see what project the one-cent checks are for because the sum is so small.

“I don’t… I should probably look at which project it was,” he acknowledged, “because of course, one cent. It’s not worth my time.”

To this day, Keegan said that the biggest residual checks he receives are from playing the arrogant football star Joey Donner in 10 Things I Hate About You. The 1999 rom-com, which was based on Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew, also starred Julia Stiles, Heath Ledger, Allison Janney, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

“I think 10 Things are probably the biggest checks still, but there are still residuals that come from all those shows," Keegan explained, noting that compensation can range anywhere from $10 to $80.

In the years since the film, Keegan has appeared in films like The Broken Hearts Club and O, as well as on shows like House, Related, and CSI: NY.

Keegan isn't the only actor speaking out about the paltry amount they earn in residuals. Earlier this month, Full Housestar Jodie Sweetin revealed on The McBride Rewind podcast that she similarly received a one-cent check for her role as Stephanie Tanner on the beloved ‘90s family comedy.

“I got a one-cent check the other day," she remarked. "No, there's no syndication anymore because it's all in streaming. Who gets paid for that? Nobody gets paid for that.”

She explained that the amount of money she receives fluctuates, making for an unreliable source of income.

“You don't know how much it's going to be, or how often they're going to run the show,” Sweetin said. “So sometimes you're like, 'Oh, cool. That was nice.' And then sometimes you're like, 'All right, well, there's a nice dinner out.’”

Who’s the Boss star Danny Pintauro also recently revealed that he makes more money delivering Amazon packages than he does from his past projects.

“A really good year [of residuals] can bring me about $9,000. That's nothing in this day and age with the prices of everything,” he toldEntertainment Tonight. “So I've really got to rely on everything else."
